How Successful Is HCG With Accelerating Weight Loss?

The whole weight reduction business program is filled of fads and fresh fads are popping up all of the time. Now the problem here is that loads of people will leap onboard with the latest diet fad with no doing any research in regards to security. In common, people want a fast fix, so they want to reduce weight rapidly without putting in very much attempt. I am always wary of the newest diet fad coming out and you ought to be too. A totally popular weight loss fad these days is known as HCG which stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. Here, we will talk about HCG and whether or not it can help you with weight loss.

First of all, countless people incorrectly think that HCG is just one more expensive designer treatment. In fact, HCG is a hormone that occurs naturally in all of our bodies. While women are with child, they have a extremely large stock of this hormone. For this reason, the occurrence of this hormone at a certain concentration is used as a analytical examination for pregnancy.

Kevin Trudeau was the guy who popularized the use of HCG for dieting when he wrote and published a volume on the theme. For your information, Kevin has spent a extended time in jail because of more than a few infractions on FTC strategys.

Now Kevin Trudeau claims inside his paperback that HCG is a wonder hormone and he states which it is more effective than any other weight loss supplement out there. There is, but, no scientific research available that can support this claim. In fact, the various manufacturers who manufacture artificial HCG will not even officially claim that there is a advantage to fat people. Essentially, here are merely a little quantity of pros and doctors who insist that they have evidence in the effectiveness of HCG for weight loss.

There have been several tests and studies conducted on HCG over the past 40 years. Unfortunately, none of these studies have revealed any definitive proof that HCG can assist with weight reduction. The question is then, how can a select couple doctors and experts say that it is effective?

For your information, when a doctor allows you to try an HCG action, they will also tell you to go on a little calorie diet. Now a little calorie diet on its own will trigger you to reduce fat. When you have the combination of HCG and a low calorie diet, are they both helping with weight loss or is it just the diet on its own?

HCG was expelled quite a while back in the United States. If you want to try and purchase HCG, you basically have two options. You can also attempt to get it from one more nation or it can be bought on the black market. Either scenario can end up being very expensive.

Now here is my advice: Do not use HCG until the safety and effectiveness are fully established. The tried and true method of consuming strong chow and exercising is the way to go. Listen, if you want to lose weight then that means that you want to become healthier, so why potentially poison yourself with a little bit known about pill? Remember too that you don’t need to starve yourself. Just stick to vigorous food, drink plenty of water, keep fit and reduce your intake of junk food. This plain method has confirmed itself to be completely successful over the years.

Quick Weight Loss with Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery

Sleeve gastrectomy surgery is one of the safest and rapid weight loss procedures for higher risk obese patients. It is relatively a new approach for those with a body mass index over 50 and is ideal for patients with anemia and other medical complications.

Sleeve gastrectomy surgery is the process of reducing the size of the patient’s stomach permanently. It helps you lose weight by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten at one time.

The amount of weight loss after a sleeve gastrectomy is dependent upon the size of the sleeve created. In general, a person may expect to lose between 30 to 35% of their initial body weight or roughly 40 pounds in a year.

Procedure

This procedure is performed laparoscopically and under a general anesthetic. Your surgeon will make 4 to 5 small incisions in the abdomen. He then inserts a series of instruments along with a camera. This camera is able to relay what it focuses onto a large video screen outside. This screen enables the surgeon to have a closer view and also useful for the placement of the instruments and stapling of the stomach. The stomach is restricted by stapling and dividing it vertically and removing more than 85%.

The remaining stomach is shaped like a very small banana and measures from 1-5 ounces depending on the patient.

No interference with small intestine and no changes to the normal digestive function of the stomach. You have a much smaller stomach, for which patients feel full after eating very small amounts of food.

Along with the large portion of the stomach, your hunger hormone ‘ghrelin’ is also removed. This hormone is responsible for stimulating your appetite that means no hunger experience any more.

After surgery

You will only be allowed to drink water in the first 24 hours after surgery. This will make sure that there are no problems with you consuming liquids or fluids. Following that, you will go on a liquid diet for next few days, then this will be followed by semi-solids and then solid foods gradually.

Unlike other forms of bariatric surgery, the outlet valve and the nerves to the stomach remain intact. The stomach continues to function normally and so there are fewer restrictions on the foods after surgery. However, it is the responsibility of the patient to reduce the quantity of food to be eaten.

Benefits

Not only is it a one-time procedure, one of the greatest advantages of this surgery, which includes removal of the part of the stomach and elimination of hunger stimulation hormones from your body.

You will experience dramatic weight loss in the first twelve months after surgery. Again, it will reduce your risks of developing co-morbidity such as heart disease, stroke or lever disease and diabetics. Other important benefits include improved confidence level, healthy lifestyle and a more positive outlook on life. It is also considered much safer.

Disadvantages

Though the risks are known to be much lower than other forms of bariatric surgery, one of the major disadvantages of this kind of surgery is that it is not reversible.  Some higher BMI patients may need to have a second stage procedure later to help lose the rest of their body weight. And like any surgical operation, sleeve gastrectomy also has possible complications like leakage, bleeding etc.

Alma Orozco is a certified patient coordinator of the Ready4Achange team for weight loss surgery in Monterrey, Mexico. Monterrey is rated as the safest city in Latin America and the medical facilities out there are certified by US hospitals. The low cost of living makes surgery very affordable in Mexico. You can check it out by simply comparing the cost of lap band surgery done in the US with that of the surgery cost in Monterrey. It’s cheaper with even the fares included.

Burning Calories: Drink Ice Water

For anyone trying to lose weight, this question is bound to raise a lot of excitement.

Surely losing weight cannot be such a simple issue, can it?

Well, the answer is YES!

You can actually lose calories by drinking ice water. Your body loses calories in the process of warming this ice water to the body temperature. Now any enthusiast, must surely be thinking, if we can lose weight by drinking ice water, can we lose a large amount of calories if we drink lots of ice water?

Well, to answer this question we have to look at some simple calculations.

First of all we need to distinguish between calories and Calories. Calories (i.e. with a big c) are used to denote the amount of energy that is contained in food. Where as calorie with a small c is used to denote the energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius.

Another interesting fact is that it takes, 1 Calorie to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 degree Celsius. So when you are drinking a 140-Calorie can of cola, you are in fact ingesting 140,000 calories in your body. This is the same when you burn say 100 Calories working out, this means that you have actually burned 100,000 calories.

The main purpose of telling you that the definition of calories is based on the rising of temperature is to tell you an interesting fact. We have just seen that when our body raises the temperature, it burns calories, so when you drink ice cold water your body loses calories in raising that ice cold water to body temperature.

Now let us get the math right.

Our body temperature is at 37 degree Celsius.
The temperature of ice cold water can be safely said to be 0 degree Celsius.
There are 473.18 grams in 16 fluid ounces of water.

It takes 1 calorie to raise 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius.

So, if your body raises the temperature of 473.18 grams of water by 37 degree Celsius it burns 17508 calories.

But this is calorie with a small c. It actually denotes only 17.5 calories. You might be thinking that losing 17.5 Calories doesn’t count much compared to the calories we intake.

But, you are not going to drink just one 16 once glass of water are you? Even if you stick to the recommended minimum of 8 glasses of water you will end up burning 70 Calories in a day and that too by doing practically nothing. You can also increase the water intake if you want to shed a few extra pounds.

Well, although it is definite that drinking ice cold water helps you to burn calories you should not try to replace it with exercise. You should continue with all the weight reduction methods that you already on to.

You can just boost up your effort by drinking ice cold water.

How hormones affect weight loss

Like everywhere else in the human body hormones play an important role in weight loss and weight gain.

Our bodies regulate appetite using hormonal signals that tell us when we’re hungry and when we’re full. This is why most diet experts will with eyes individuals to eat slowly because it takes the body 20 minutes to catch up with the stomach. In other words your stomach will actually be full far before you will feel full and it takes 20 minutes for the stomach to trigger the hormones to be released to tell your body and your mind that you are full.

There are actually eight different hormonal chemical messengers with in the body that affects our eating habits. The first is growth hormone that stimulates protein synthesis or muscle tone and development and affects the strength of your bones, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Endorphins is an internal over you type hormone that block pain and decreases appetite and also creates a feeling of euphoria. Testosterone is an important hormone in both men and women to maintain muscle tone and strength but it also increases the basal metabolic rate, or metabolism. Testosterone will help decrease body fat and produces feel confidence.

Estrogen will increase fat breakdown from body fat stores so that it can be used and will also increase basal metabolic rate. This hormone is much higher levels and females than in the males. Thyroxine (T4) is a hormone that is produced by the thyroid gland which raises the metabolic rate of almost all cells in the body. This helps individual to feel more energetic and causes them to expend more calories which is important in weight loss.

Epinephrine is a hormone produced by the adrenal medulla, located on the top of each kidney. Epinephrine will increase the amount of blood the heart home and stimulates the breakdown of glycogen which is stored carbohydrates. It will also stimulate the breakdown of fat to use as fuel. Costs insulin is also an important hormone in regulating blood levels of glucose and directing fatty acids and amino acids into the cells. Glucagon is a hormone secreted by the pancreas to raise blood levels of glucose when they become too low. It also causes the breakdown of fat to be used as fuel.

In 1994 researchers also found another hormone which was very important in the metabolism of an individual and helps regulate the way in which individuals are able to lose weight.

The struggle to maintain an appropriate body weight or to lose weight is very difficult. Many people feel that there must be a reason why weight loss is so difficult and while it is true that hormonal imbalances affects some overweight individuals the number of individuals who are affected is minute. Hormones do play a role in weight loss and weight gain but the role is dependence more upon the individual and their lifestyle than it is upon a biochemical imbalance.

Scientists are however, interested in a greater study of the hormone Leptin. Because the discovery of its interaction and importance in weight loss was only recent, 1994, research is very new and not always conclusive. Some research has found that in mice where leptin is at an imbalance administration of the hormone will almost instantly decrease hunger in food consumption and increase energy expenditure which results in weight loss.

Dr. Ron Rosedale has explored dietary solutions for correcting leptin and balances using only changes in dietary habits. In his book The Fat Resistant Diet, Leo Galland proposes an anti-inflammatory diet which also addresses the problems with leptin. In 2004 Byron Richards published a book mastering the weapon which addresses these imbalances and gives the reader five basic rules they can use when developing their dietary plan.

While hormone interactions play an important role in how an individual either gains weight or loses way it is also important to note that those hormones are often also impacted by be type of nutrition which the body is fed. Maintaining a healthy diet full of raw fruits and vegetables as well is nuts and seeds is a great way to improve your nutrition and help your body works the way it was supposed to.

Weight loss during Menopause

Women that are going through menopause will start to notice a weight gain.

They may exercise and try to cut back on their calories but they will realize the weight is not as easy to lose as it used to be.

One of the reasons for weight gain during menopause is the change in the hormone levels in your body. You may develop insulin resistance which means that your body will turn all the calories that it can into fat. Stress plays an important part in weight gain during menopause. Stress produces cortisol which can block fat loss. As a woman ages, she may not be able to handle the stressors in her life as well as when she was younger. This will produce more cortisol and therefore make her gain weight.

Weight loss during menopause may be a little bit harder, but it is possible. The first thing a woman needs to do is to take a look at their lifestyle. Most women as they age become less active. So if you find that you are not getting any exercise, now is the time to increase your activity level.

Aerobic exercises will boost your metabolism and help your body burn more fat. Find a good aerobic exercise program that you enjoy doing. This includes things like walking, jogging, dancing or anything else that gets the heart rate up.

Strength training is a great way for menopausal women to lose weight. Strength training will help you boost your metabolism and increase your muscle mass. It also helps to strengthen your bones which is very important for women after menopause.

When women become stressed they will turn to food as a stress reliever. This will lead to significant weight gain for a woman over forty because of her decreased metabolism. If you want to lose weight, it is important that you take a good look at your diet. Change your eating habits by cutting out the junk foods. Start including more fruits and vegetables into your diet.

To lose weight after menopause it is important that you reduce your caloric intake. As you grow older, your body does not need as many calories as it did when you where younger. Slowly reduce your calorie intake by 200 calories at a time. Don’t cut back too quickly or your body will go into “starvation” mode and start hanging onto every calorie you eat.

It is best to eat several small meals throughout the day instead of three big meals. This can keep your body in the fat burning mode. Just be careful that you do not go over your calorie limit when you are eating these small meals.

Cut out the high fat foods by limiting your fat intake to twenty to thirty-five percent of your daily calories. You should incorporate good fats into your diet. These good fats are the monounsaturated fats. These fats can be found in olives, nuts and certain seeds.

Weight Loss Programs for Adults

Believe it or not weight loss programs designed for individuals …

less than 30 may not be appropriate for those of us over 40. For the most part, our metabolism changes drastically around the age of 30 years. Hormone levels begin to change the which affects me amount of weight we gain as well as the ease by which we lose it. Unfortunately, the weight loss industry has many unscrupulous individuals who would like us to believe that we can lose up to 75 pounds in 12 weeks!

Yeah, right.

In the United States today approximately 2 out of every three adults is now overweight. It’s not surprising then that the weight loss industry is thriving and is currently a multibillion-dollar business. Instead, the real question is why do so many people keep returning to weight loss programs that don’t work instead of doing what it does take to maintain a healthy weight?

Realistically, the answer lies in the attraction to the novelty of the new weight loss program and the desire for a quick fix. Today everyone wants it fast. We want fast cars, fast food and fast weight loss all without the need to do any work.

Research and physicians support the fact that there is a traditional way to successfully lose weight whether you are less than 30 or over 40. The difference lies in the amount of energy it takes in order to lose the weight over 40 or to maintain an appropriate weights. There just is no easy fix that works.

There are several facts that we do know about weight-loss strategies for individuals who are over 40. First dieting alone, without any exercise, is very likely to be ineffective in the long term. Individuals will probably be able to lose five or 6 pounds but any diet without exercise will likely have you read gaining pounds within the first couple of years. Researchers have also found that there is a greater chance that non-exercising dieters will end up weighing even more than they did before they began dieting.

This yo-yo weight effect is actually more detrimental to the health of the individual than maintaining an unhealthy weights to begin with.

The second fact that is important to understand for everyone is that in order to lose weight you consume fewer calories than you burn. This means that the number of calories you eat each day in the foods you consume must be less than the number of calories you burn each day doing your daily activities, exercise or just breathing. That difference can be as few as 200 calories per day but there must be a negative difference.

The greater than negative difference the faster the amount of weight that will be lost in a shorter amount of time. Weight loss though that is lost at a modest pace has a much better chance of staying off for good. The aim is to lose not more than a pound, possibly to, per week but never more.

A third fact that is the crux of the many weight-loss programs is the addition of behavioral support with either counselors or other diet participants. Even support over the Internet appears to be promising for short-term weight loss. In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association published in 2003 researchers compared the effects of Internet weight-loss program alone versus the addition of behavioral counseling using e-mail as a provider for one year. They found that adding e-mail counseling to a basic weight-loss intervention program significantly improved weight loss and adults who are at risk for diabetes.

While it may be fun to try the newest diets used by celebrities in Hollywood or recommended by your closest friend the basic design of any weight loss program used to:

1. Change the way you think. You’re not dieting you are changing your eating habits for a lifetime.

2. Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables as well is raw foods in your diet which will decrease the amount of calories you consume and increase your perception of being full.

3. Add exercise to your program, even if it’s walking for 30 minutes every day. This will help you to get into a negative calorie burn, even if it’s only 200 calories each day, and will help you to maintain your weight loss in the long term.

Why am I gaining weight during the Menopause?

Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when menstruation ceases.

A woman’s body is also no longer able to bear children. This normal, biological process occurs between a woman’s late 40s to 50s, with the age of 51 years old being the average. Menopause is not official until a woman no longer menstruates for a time period of one year continuously.

A number of bodily signs and symptoms appear prior to this and can last years until menopause is an actual diagnosis. The signs and symptoms leading up to this point is defined as perimenopause. During the perimenopausal stage your hormones are inconsistent and periods will be irregular. Even though your periods are irregular during this time, it is still possible to become pregnant.

Many women ask the question, “Why am I gaining weight during menopause?” This is a very common complaint and you are not alone or unique. It has to do with metabolism. As we age so does our metabolism. Women experience a decline in their metabolism starting in her mid 30s.

A woman going through menopause has fluctuating hormones and this makes it difficult to maintain weight. One of the symptoms of menopause is an increase in abdominal fat. As we age we also need less calories and more exercise. Menopause depletes a woman of much needed energy to help her fight this problem.

Even so in order to combat the weight gain women must attempt to increase her exercise. We need to eat healthier, incorporating more fruits and vegetables into our diet. Calories cannot be cut to an extreme otherwise the body will think that it is starving and thereby conserve fat. It is a tough situation that many women face. By increasing exercise your body should react with more energy. The problem is getting started and sticking to it. It is an everyday battle and you need to be consistent.

By exercising on a regular basis, approximately 4 to 5 times a week for 30 minutes you will increase muscle mass, which does burn calories more effectively. A woman must be steadfast in her efforts lest she will backslide. By building up muscle mass and burning calories at an increased rate a woman can then eat normally although not to the point of complete fullness.

Remember, there is a way out and that is by regular and consistent exercise, eating smaller portions and concentrating on fruits and vegetables more. Once you get started you will have to keep up with it. You will then feel a little more energetic enabling you to exercise without fatigue. You will feel better, look better, and be in a healthier state.

Tricks for Male Weight Loss

Weight loss is a problem that affects both men and women.

Fortunately, most of the time, and then had an easier time of losing weight and then do women. This is often because of the effects of testosterone and the increased amount of muscle mass which burns more calories in men than in women. Men do continue to have difficulty with weight loss vital with a few simple tips and tricks these complications can have simple solutions. Read through the following 15 suggestions for weight loss and use the ones that fit your lifestyle the best.

1. Understand that weight loss is a lifelong commitment to eating well and maintaining the weight that is lost. Give up the notion that the weight will just fall off in the next six weeks and you’ll have rock hard abs. Instead, focus on the long-term goals and desire for a healthy lifestyle.

2. Start small and stay consistent. Each pound is equal to 3500 calories. This means that in order to lose a pound you have to either burn off more calories or eat less. The best way is to do both. You can lose 1 pound every two months by achieving a calorie deficit of only 60-100 calories a day. This means that by giving up the Coke or candy bar in the afternoon or gourmet coffee you’ll blast through a pound every 2 months in no time.

3. Beware of burgers and fries. While they may be fun to eat they are loaded with fat and calories. Make your own burgers at home with beef round or round steak. This is as lowcal as a skinless chicken.

4. Trim the calories from your dessert by combining whipped cream with fresh fruit or berries instead of ice cream.

5. Have at least 8 – 8 oz glasses of water each day. Have a glass of water with each meal. If you substitute water for soda or alcohol every other day you’ll lose between 7 and 15 pounds in a year, making no other changes to your diet.

6. Substitute fish for beef a couple of times a week. This will cut the calories by 200-400 for the week if you don’t use creamy sauces on the fish. Seafood is lower in fat and high in omega – 3 fatty acids that lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.

7. Snack more during the day and stave off hunger pangs but use foods that are healthy like pineapple, apple slices with peanut butter or a handful of nuts and seeds with dried fruit. These snacks will satisfy the sweet craving, are healthy and will save you thousands of calories a month.

8. Losing weight isn’t about discipline or will power but rather about controlling your environment. Get rid of the high calorie snacks and high fat foods in the kitchen and replace them with healthy snacks, fruits and dried fruit.

9. Eliminate butter or oil when sautéing by using non-stick pans. Use a spritz of olive oil to coat the pan. Olive oil is healthier and better for you than other oils.

10. Take your time while eating. Savor each bite. It takes the stomach about 20 minutes to register that it’s full. By this time you can have over eaten by 20 minutes! Prepare to stop eating when you are full. Healthy people are not members of the clean plate club, instead they take a healthy amount of food and stop when they are full.

11. Your body will get hungry every 3 – 5 hours – so feed it! Make sure you have foods on hand that are healthy and you aren’t reaching for the candy bar. Keep mini-meals on hand to stay full and stave off cravings that lead to over-eating.

12. Although it’s possible to lose weight by diet alone when combined with exercise it goes faster and smoother. There is no need to hit the gym for hours though. Set up a reasonable workout schedule that you can follow and stick with. Don’t kill yourself – find something you like and you’ll be willing to continue. You’ll find that the more active you are the more healthy you feel and the more active you’ll become.

13. Be aware of what you put in your mouth every day. Keep a food journal for a week and you may be surprised by how much food actually does pass your lips as you are cooking, snacking at work or grabbing food on the go. Watch what goes on the table by reading labels and spend more time preparing your food instead of grabbing processed convenience foods from the freezer.

14. Watch for and seek out a support system. These are people who know your goals and support your desire to be healthy. This means they won’t sabotage your efforts to cut back on desserts or exercise daily. These are people you can call at 10pm when the ice cream shop down the road seems to be screaming your name.

15. Be prepared, and willing, to fail. You won’t be perfect every day and to expect perfection is to embrace frustration and failure. There will be good and bad days but as long as there are more good days than bad days you’re on the right track. The trick is to never give up, even when you do mess up. You aren’t a loser – just human.
