Supermarkets brag of them – rows upon rows of canned foods from canned apples to canned zucchini paste. It seems that we have endorsed store-bought canned goods as part of present life without giving deeper thought to their effects on the environment and to our healthiness. Well, now is a fine time to secure information on their advantages and disadvantages!

Advantages

You might not realize it but canned goods have advantages outside serving handy functions for those times when food preparation is a burden, or when you are camping, or when you are existing on a spending plan.

First, with the lightweight materials used for the cans, larger energy savings can be secured. In olden days, cans were 40 percent thicker and heavier, which means that the energy put to use was at least 40 percent greater then than it is these days. RAW Food Too Fatty!

A few days a go I found an interesting article about how diets are unhealthy?
This time it was not about B-12 and folate which are the usual complaints I see about diet.
What made this article even better is that it was written by a raw foodist, Frederic Patenaude.

Fred arguments that most diets are, believe it or not, too fatty!
And that diets do NOT contain enough fruits and vegetables.

If RAW Foodists don’t eat enough Veggies, Who Does?

I found this very interesting and so did many others as the article has over 150 comments.

Turns out that the average raw-foodist gets 60% of his calories from fat, which is 20% higher than the Standard American Diet. It might be healthy fat, but it is still fat.

These guys are eating way too many nuts, oils and avocados.

I heard a raw food chef say that we shouldn’t eat more than a handful of nuts each day. Maybe that is a good guideline as we take part of, what I believe is, one of the healthiest diets on earth.

How to Stay Warm with Raw Food

When I look at the snow outside I just want to cuddle up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate.
We’re used to hot chocolate and soups to feel during these days.

I wonder Do we really need food to stay in the winter?

Especially raw foodists find it hard to stay in the winter. But there are great ways to stay even if you don’t heat your food.

I’ve got low blood pressure and get very quickly so I find myself a good guinea pig for this.

Here a my Top 3 ways to stay :

  1. MOVE: Your blood circulation is your best engine to stay . And the best way to keep your blood circulation going is to stay active. Don’t sit still for too long but get up and move regularly. Especially moving your torso and upper body works great.
    • Twist your upper body.
    • Lift and lower your shoulders at a fast pace.
  2. Keep Your Lower Back : Few things makes you as as cool air on your lower back. A loose T-shirt or one that opens a gap as you move are devastating. Dress with clothes that cover your whole back tightly even as you move or bend forwards.
  3. Avoid Food: Don’t cool yourself down with food. Take the food out of the fridge and let it adjust to room temperature before your eat it.

A cup of hot tea to up your fingers or some spicy food also helps but in effectiveness I would not compare them to the 3 above.

Raw Breakfast Recipe

Raw food recipe

Raw breakfast is a great way to start your day.

If you are curious about this is a perfect way to try it out.
This is easy to make and uses only regular ingredients.

When it comes to equipment it’s enough with a hand mixer.
This is a fresh, tasty and very nutritious breakfast.

Ingredients:
1 celery stalk
1 small apple
1 pear
1 kiwi
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon crushed flaxseeds

Peel and cut the fruits in larger pieces. Mix with the celery.
Sprinkle cinnamon and flaxseeds over the food.

Enjoy!

Did You Eat 3000 calories on Thanksgiving?

You’re not alone.

3,000 calories and 229 grams of fat is what the average American will consume at a holiday feast.

And in a couple on weeks the next holiday is coming.

Now is the time to .
If you’ve never tried before than give it just 1 single day.

We’re all really busy right now and most of us can do with some EXTRA energy.

A 1-3 day will:

  • Give you more energy.
  • Give your digestive system a well deserved break.
  • Relieve stress.
  • Eliminate some from your body.
  • Maybe remove some excess weight.

If you choose a diet that fits you it does NOT make you feel:

  • Tired
  • Weak
  • Hungry

Maybe you like it enough to continue a couple of days more.

By day 7 your body will have started to burn excess body fat, not releasing but burning fat. Sound interesting?

Choosing a Diet

There are so many out there and you have to think about what fits you. If you don’t like salad and raw foods do a cleanse that contains cooked food.
If you love fruits and smoothies do a on just that.

Some people on just apples. Apples are great food so why not, just remember to peel them.

My favorite is to do a green cleanse where I eat all the fresh raw fruits and vegetables that I want.

  • I don’t get hungry.
  • I don’t get tired.
  • I just get tons of energy!

You can eat your food as they are, you can make delicious smoothies, try out exiting raw food recipes.
If you’re not already a raw foodist I really recommend that you try a couple of days of green cleanse.

Can You resist this?

Nothing compares to a fresh smoothie.

  • 1 ripe mango
  • juice from 1 orange
  • 1/2 pear

Peel and cut in the fruits in pieces. Mix it all until smooth.

You can also cleanse on cooked food.

For example the vegetable cleanse where you eat only vegetables. You can eat them raw, steamed or as a soup. Of course fresh herbs, onions and garlic are vegetables so this has real potential for great taste.

If you think that this all is not for you then did you know that you can on regular food?
This is how you do it:

  1. Have breakfast, lunch as usual.
  2. Then a 3PM snack of fresh fruits.
  3. After 3 PM drink only .

Bottom line is that there is a way to for each and everyone of us.
All you need is to find your special detox diet.

If it’s only for 1 day. How hard can it be?

Why is Healthy Eating so important ?

Healthy eating will provide good health. If you want to save dreaded diseases like the cardiac disorder, hypertension and cancer, you must make a practice to take a well-balanced nutritive mode. If your ideal is to have a healthy spirit in a healthy body, the key is to bring balance, moderation and the variety in your meals.

Drink water: the majority of the restaurants will push sodas and alcohol on their menus because they make the money doing this. However, not to forget that you can order water, that you would have. Or if you prefer, you can order the tea, water is always the healthiest choice.

Since this can occur, it is important that you pay a detailed attention to yourself while eating. Eat slowly and do not eat as far as you can.

Some medical experts see great advantages in raw. In addition to allowing the loss of weight, can seemingly increase the metabolism, making easier – calorie burning. Moreover, it can help to immune system and the body to get rid of harmful toxins. Some defenders claim even that raw foods improve the glance of their skin.

Microwave Dangers from Real Life

A 6th grade science fair project was to water 2 identical plants. One with purified water one with water boiled in the microwave oven. Here is the result on Day Nine.

Another thing about microwaves that I’ve heard many times is that they don’t leak much radiation.
This home test shows something totally different.

In the first video the guy preforming the test shows the equipment and does a first test.

In 2002 when I did my first google search on I decided not to continue in my old patterns just because I was used to it. I wanted to see how hard it would be not to have a microwave oven so I moved it to the basement.
The microwave oven never reentered my kitchen. I didn’t even miss it that much. It probably costs me a couple of minutes every day. But am I really in such a hurry?
And who knows, maybe my decision not to use a microwave oven will let me reclaim those minutes at the end of my life.

Being Young And Healthy with Apricots

This delectable yellow-orange drupe is a source of glee to its avid fans.

Whether you like it straight from your hand or in a sweet dessert, this pubescent-surfaced fruit surely delivers lots of benefits to the body. As tasty as it is, an apricot is as well helpful to boosting your youthfulness.

A younger-looking skin and healthier lives of those who include a couple of this fruit in their daily diet is an obvious evidence of what it can bring. Now let us take a closer look at how this wonderful fruit can be very useful to you.

Carotenoids

The secret of apricot’s power lies in its high-level of a mighty antioxidant called carotenoids. The oxygen-free forms of carotenoids such as lycopene, alpha-carotene, and beta-carotene are the organic pigments helpful to men.

Beta-carotene is being converted by the body to Vitamin A which is beneficial to the eyes- it protects the eyes from functional deterioration, lessens the risk of acquiring cataracts, and prevents the eyes from xerophthalmia – a disease that dries the conjunctival epithelium.

Apricots also protect the heart through its famous bright red carotenoid called lycopene. Lycopene protects the heart by reducing the blood levels of Low-Density Lipoprotein (bad cholesterol) which causes formation of plaque in the blood vessels, which in turn, precipitate a number of heart diseases. The Department of Agriculture of the United States says that Lycopene is the most potent antioxidant among other carotenoids as this extinguishes peroxyl radicals that damage the DNA that initiates cancer. Lycopene helps in fighting breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Dried apricots are good sources of lycopene. People susceptible to these diseases should include apricots in their diet.

Other properties and benefits

Velvety apricots are also high in fiber. Apricots are used to prevent and allay constipation and can even induce diarrhea. Three apricots are enough to take effect. This means also that it can help you slash your weight, have a normal digestion, and control high blood levels of sugar. Fiber also keeps the blood vessels from being congested.

Apricots are also high in potassium that helps in regulating the blood pressue and the contraction of the heart.

The kernels of apricots are equally nutritious. Each kernel has several helpful properties that are proven to assuage cough and helps the respirator system to be toned. But before eating a kernel, the tip of the seeds should be cut off as this contains high levels of laetrile that can upset the stomach.

Apricots are also rich in Vitamin C and iron.

Apricots also help the body fight Alzheimer’s disease, memory loss, and an eye-disease called Age-Related Macula Degeneration.

Around the World and Beyond

Apricot is a traditional Chinese medicine that helps in restoring lost body fluids (which also prevents dehydration) and in detoxifying the body. Without knowing why they did, the Chinese also ate apricots to improve their fertility. Now we know that this fruit is abundant in minerals that boost the production of sex hormones.

In the Hunza Valley in Himalayas, people used apricots as staple food. Many centenarians live in this area.

Because of that benefit, Europeans have long thought of apricots to be aphrodisiacs.  In fact, William Shakespeare depicted apricot in A Midsummer Night’s Dream as such. In The Duchess of Malfi, apricots were depicted as an inducer of childbirth

Three centuries ago, the English used apricot oil to fight tumors and ulcers.

Officials of National Aeronautics and Space Administration said that astronauts (in flight) included apricot on their menu for a number of occasions already. In fact, apricots have been on the menu of the Apollo 15 trip.

Essential Steps to a Natural Diet

I found read this article today and as a believer I have to publish it.

Eating 100% is hard. I’ve tried it. What I like about Frederic Patenaude is that his is not advocating that you have to eat 100% . 50% is way better than 5 and you will benefit from any increase of in your diet.

In this article, I’m going to go back to some basics. I will be giving you specific, concrete action steps you can take right now to transition to a healthy, hopefully raw or mostly raw diet. Even if you’re a seasoned raw-foodist, I’m sure you will find some key insights in this article that will help you refine your diet and improve your program. These steps are in no particular order.

STEP #1 – *Workout and *

It’s not possible to be healthy without being fit. We know that, at least intuitively, even if we tend to forget the importance of fitness in a healthy lifestyle, by focusing too much on the importance of diet.

But more importantly, your physical condition has a major impact on your digestion, assimilation, and overall “nutrition.” For example, your ability to uptake sugar, called “insulin sensitivity,” is greatly influenced by your level of fitness.

If you are sedentary, insulin sensitivity is greatly reduced. Therefore, sugar is not carried as rapidly as it should to the cells. This can lead to or worsen blood sugar problems of all kinds.

If you’ve read my book “The Raw Secrets.” You are aware of the importance of hunger in health. One problem is that most people do not eat when they are truly hungry, and mistake “appetite” for hunger. Once they learn how to make the distinction, they soon realize that they are rarely if ever truly hungry!

By exercising on a daily basis and eventually engaging in cardio-respiratory activities (jogging, cardio machines at the gym, cycling, etc.) every day, you will awaken that forgotten sense of hunger.

So is very important, and the lack of a fitness program may be one of the reasons why you have difficulty eating a healthy diet.

STEP #2 – *Eat Fruit Before Each Meal*

One of the easiest ways to transition to a raw-food diet is to start eating fruit before every meal, including lunch and dinner. The idea is to eat fruit when you are the most hungry, which is at the beginning of the meal. Eat as much fruit as you desire then, and you will find that you will eat much less of the meal itself!

This is what I call an “automatic transition strategy.” Just start getting the raw-food in by eating fruit before each meal – just what your mom told you not to do when you were a kid. But now that you’re a grownup and that the Standard American Diet didn’t work for you, you need to go back to your natural instincts and satisfy your natural sweet tooth by eating as much fruit as you want before every single meal.

STEP #3 – *Learn to Make 7 Recipes That You Enjoy*

It’s been found that most people know about 7 to 10 good recipes very well, and just rotate them throughout the months, adding in other stuff occasionally for variety.

Or look at when you buy a recipe book. You might try many recipes but eventually you’ll only retain a few that you’ll continue making for the years to come.

So what I want you to know now is to find 7 simple raw-food recipes that you really like, that are easy to make and that are properly combined. (INSIDER TIP: My recipe book “Instant Raw Sensations” is just about that: http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/instantraw.html)

Ideally, I’d like you to know:

About 2 dressings
About 2 great salads
2-3 smoothies you really enjoy
1-2 more gourmet recipes

Those 7 or 10 recipes should be things you can make often, with ingredients that are easy to find, and some of them should have an instant appeal to your friends and family.

You’ll find that once you know what those recipes are, and you can make them without opening a book, that you’ll be wondering a lot less often “What should I be eating now?”

STEP #4 – *Get Rid of Cheese and Dairy*

Improving your diet isn’t about the things you ADD IN. It’s mostly about the things we LEAVE OUT. I know this reality is hard to take, but even if you eat all these fruits and vegetables, drink those fresh juices and make those huge smoothies, you won’t really feel great until you remove those offensive foods from your diet that are hurting you.

There’s one thing you need to say goodbye to forever, and it’s milk and cheese. In a previous article, I talked about the top-5 worst foods, and cheese was one of them.

Really, I see it all the time. People have this thing for cheese. They still eat it occasionally, and they still are addicted to it. (Actually, cheese contains some compounds in it that make it addictive for real, not just in your imagination).

If there would be just one category of food you could remove from your diet and feel much better for it, it’s got to be cheese and milk.

STEP #5 – *Eat Fruit in the Morning or Skip the Morning Meal*

The morning meal is the easiest to switch to raw. Most people find that once they start listening to their body, they are actually not truly hungry in the morning.

I’ve watched how many children generally don’t eat in the morning if they are left to themselves and not being force-fed.

My suggestion is that you can skip the morning meal altogether or replace it with a smoothie or some fruit. I know that this goes against all the advice you’ve heard about “never skipping meals” or that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” What I’m telling you know is that this advice isn’t based on any solid facts.

The “breakfast” is when you break the “fast” of the night, and this doesn’t have to be at noon. In fact, the French word for breakfast means “lunch”, because for thousands of years the French didn’t eat in the morning. When they started doing so, they had to come up with a new word for that meal so they called it “small breakfast” (petit dejeuner).

Skipping the morning meal or eating some fruit will help you get in touch with your true sense of hunger, which will make it easier to eat raw. Plus, it will be good for a while to help you detox and lose some weight (if that’s an issue for you).

As you start exercising more, you will eventually get hungry in the morning, believe me!
